SBI PO Syllabus


State Bank of India Central Recruitment & Promotion Department have recently published notification for the Recruitment of Probationary Officers (POs). The Exam is going to be held on the month of April.The Probationary Officers will be on probation of 2 years during which they will be given intensive training and towards end of their training period, they will be subjected to a screening process. While those Officers who achieve the predetermined standards may be confirmed and given placement in the next higher grade i.e. Officer Middle Management Grade Scale II, others who qualify the test but fail to achieve the standards set for placement in Middle Management Grade Scale II, will be confirmed as Officer Junior Management Scale Grade I. The services of those Officers who fail to qualify in this process will be terminated.
In this article we explain State Bank of India Probationary Officers syllabus & selection procedure. The Examination consisting of 2 Phases. The candidates will have to qualify both in Phase-I and Phase-II separately.

Phase-I: Written Examination

Written Examination consisting of 2 Tests. i) Objective Tests and ii) Descriptive Test. The total marks for written examination will be 250 marks.

(i) Objective Tests:

The total no. of marks for Objective Tests will be 200. The Objective Tests with 2 hour duration will consists of 4 Sections with 50 marks each as follows:
(a) Test of English Language (Grammar, Vocabulary, Comprehension etc.):-This is a test to see how well you ‘know’ English. Your English language ability would be tested through questions on grammar, vocabulary, sentence completion, synonyms, antonyms, comprehension of a passage, etc. The total marks for this test will be 50.
(b) Test of General Awareness, Marketing and Computers: - This test measures your awareness of the events happening in the world around.  Your General Knowledge and Knowledge about current affairs would be tested through social and cultural events, current events on national and international importance, events of common public interest, sports, scientific inventions etc.This test also measures your Knowledge about Marketing as well as Computers.  The total marks for this test will be 50.
(c) Test of Data Analysis and Interpretation:- This test measures your ability to interpret data.A basic knowledge of mathematics .This test also see how well you  interpret and understand date in tables, flow charts, graphs, venn diagrams etc. The total marks for this test will be 50.
(d) Test of Reasoning (High Level):- This test is to see how well you can think. It contains questions of various kinds. The total marks for this test will be 50.

(ii) Descriptive Test:

The Descriptive Test with 1 hour duration will be of “Test of EnglishLanguage (comprehension, short prĂ©cis, letter writing & essay)”.The candidates are required to qualify in the Descriptive Test by securing passing marks, to be decided by the Bank. Descriptive Test paper of only those candidates will be evaluated who have scored qualifying marks in the Objective Tests as stated above in (i). The total marks for Descriptive Test will be 50 marks.

Phase-II: Group Discussion & Interview

The total marks for Group Discussion will be 20 marks & The total marks for Interview will be 30 marks.The aggregate marks of candidates qualifying in both the Objective Tests and Descriptive Test will be arranged in descending order in each category and the candidates in the order of merit, subject to 3 times the number of vacancies in each category, will be called for Group Discussion and Interview. The qualifying marks in Group Discussion & Interview will be as decided by the Bank.

Final Selection

Marks secured by the candidates in the Written Test (out of 250 marks maximum) are converted to out of 75 and marks secured in Group Discussion & Interview (out of 50 marks maximum) are converted to out of 25. The final merit list is arrived at after aggregating converted marks of Written Test and Group Discussion & Interview out of 100 for each category. The selection will be made from the top merit ranked candidates in each category.
